Metabolic Conditions

It is the most common metabolic disorder. It is due to either the pancreas not producing enough insulin, or the body not responding properly to the insulin produced, namely insulin resistance.

It is more common in older people and also referred to as maturity onset diabetes. Sedentary life style, poor eating habits, and obesity are all contributing factors.

Oral medications, along with proper diet and exercise, are the mainstay of therapy. In spite of this, blood sugars can fluctuate; with the progression of the disease, patients can become insulin dependent. Long term complications are common and can include blindness, kidney damage, neuropathy, and heart problems.

With stem cell therapy, we are hoping to improve insulin production and insulin sensitivity, thereby preventing long term complications and improving the quality of life of our patients.
